LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - 2008 United States Olympian Joanne Dow has been tabbed to be the next head coach of the Siena Men's and Women's Cross Country program. Dow joins the Saints following a successful two-year stint as an assistant coach for the University of New Hampshire Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track and Field teams.
"We are fortunate to have such an accomplished competitive athlete join our coaching staff," said Director of Athletics John D'Argenio. "Joanne will serve as a great role model for our runners and be able to demonstrate to them the commitment needed to succeed so that our program can continue the strides of improvement it made last year."
A nine-time US National Champion in race walking, Dow competed in the 20 kilometer walk for the United States at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She placed 31st in the event with a time of 1:34.15.

A five-time Olympic Trials qualifier, she won the bronze medal in the 1998 Goodwill Games and 2003 Pan American Games.
While at New Hampshire, Dow helped guide the women's cross country program to second place finishes in the America East both seasons. The women's track and field team won the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 2011 and was the runner-up last season. Additionally, she coached five NCAA Regional Qualifiers.
Prior to her stint at UNH, Dow served as the head girls cross country and track and field coach and boys track and field coach at Bishop Guertin High in Nashua, N.H. from 2008-10. She was a two-time Division I Coach of the Year on the girls side (2009, 2010) and also earned honors in 2010 on the boys side. In 2009, she led the girls team to the Class L Championship and both squads captured the title in 2010.
Dow began her coaching career at Manchester Central High in Manchester, N.H. where she was the head boys cross country coach and assistant girls track and field coach from 2005-08.
