LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Meghan Yi has added yet another major honor to an already star-studded senior season. The recent Siena College graduate has been named a Capital One Academic All-District Women's Cross Country First Team selection representing District I.
The Capital One Academic All-District Teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and recognize the nation's top student athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Yi was one of just eight runners to earn District I First Team distinction. District I covers all six New England states and New York.
First Team Academic All-District honorees such as Yi advance to the Capital One All-America Team ballot where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Yi was recently named the Siena College Student of the Year and was inducted into Siena's Alpha Kappa Alpha Honor Society for achieving academic excellence, demonstrating an awareness of the problems facing society and exhibiting a sincere concern for others.
Yi has received multiple additional honors from Siena College this spring including being named an Outstanding Academic Athlete Award winner, received a Student Athlete Academic Excellence Award for accruing the highest athlete GPA in the School of Science, and earned the College's Fr. Cyprian Mensing O.F.M. Award for demonstrating prominent leadership, outstanding scholarship and for exemplifying the highest ideals of Christianity and the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi.
Last month, Yi graduated from Siena College with a 3.8 GPA in the Albany Medical College pre-med program. Currently, she is in the middle of a 3,993-mile bike ride across America as part of the "Bike and Build" program which organizes cross country bicycle trips which benefit affordable housing groups.
