The men were selected eighth in the MAAC preseason poll, while the women were picked to finish seventh in just the third NCAA Division I track season. During the 2016-17 indoor season, the men finished eighth as a team. Evans Kibet had led the way with a second place finish in the 800m finals. His time of 1:53.83 broke his own school record and qualified him for the IC4A Championship. It was the highest men’s finish at the MAAC Championship and first IC4A individual qualifier for the Saints. Travis Fairlee has earned a top-10 finish with his ninth place result in the mile.

The women took seventh place at the MAAC Indoor Championship last season. Sarah Forman became Siena’s first Division I title winner when she took gold in the 3000m with a time of 9:55.79. She had also qualified for the ECAC Championship in the same event.
