Siena Women Take Third at MAAC Cross Country Championships

Kim and Michelle Milton finished 9th and 10th respectively, leading the Siena women to a third place finish at the MAAC Championships Friday afternoon in New York. Brian Knipfing's 28th place finish led the way for the Siena men which finished seventh.

The Iona Gaels finished with a total of 17 points as eight of their runners finished in the top ten of the race. This is the 13th consecutive MAAC Cross Country Championship won by the Gaels and 18th overall. Marist finished second with a score of 60, while Manhattan finished third with 80 points. For the women, Loyola had four women to finish in the top fifteen and had a score of 46 points. Iona finished second with 52 points and Siena finished third with 69 points.

Iona junior Nigel Wray (Oshawa, Ontario) finished in first place with a time of 24:47.1. Wray was named the MAAC Most Outstanding Runner for finishing with the top time. Iona freshman Adam Hortian (Waterloo, Ontario) finished second, Iona sophomore Stephen Chemlany (Kapsokwony, Kenya) finished third, Manhattan sophomore Tyler Raymond (Scotia, NY) finished fourth and Iona junior Chris Mammone (Valley Stream, NY) finished fifth.

On the women's side, Iona junior Emmily Chelanga (Marakwet, Kenya) was named the MAAC Most Outstanding Runner as she finished with the best time at 21:26.8. Iona freshman Michelle Gallagher (San Francisco, CA) finished second, while Manhattan junior Therese Forsberg (Ostervala, Sweden) finished third, followed by Loyola freshman Andrea Rovegno (Wyckoff, NJ) at fourth, and Loyola junior Jackie Truncellito (Exon, PA) finished fifth.

Mick Byrne of Iona College was also named the 2003 MAAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year, while Chris Bayless of Loyola College was named the Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
