Siena Cross Country team headed to the CCSU Mini Meet for the final meet before the Championship. For both the men and the women, except Serena Rizzo, this is the final meet of their cross country season. The men finished fourth overall, while the women finished 17th.
“I’m glad we got this group one last opportunity to compete this season,” said head coach John Kenworthy. “Many of these athletes are young and will benefit from the added experience down the road. I was particularly excited to see Serena Rizzo take another step forward today; she has gotten better and more fit every week after an injury this September. We are excited about her progress and can’t wait to see how she can help us at the MAAC Championship as well.”
Adam Vaccaro finished 14th overall and was the first Saint to cross the line for the 5K with a time of 16:42.0. Freshman Ittai Rosales got on the course and came through the finish line at 16:51.7. Grant Norton and Eric Brower stayed the course and came through the shoot in respective times of 16:58.4 and 16:58.5. Mike Mahoney rounded out the scores for Siena with his time of 17:09.8. Michael Carroll and Daniel Medici concluded their sophomore cross country season with times of 17:39.3 and 18:17.3, respectively.
Rizzo led the women in the 3K with a time of 11:32.2. Freshman Kathryn Elnick and senior Kelly Russo were one behind the other as they finished in respective times of 12:37.2 and 12:39.5. Freshman Agnes Eigo and Karli Murphy finished out the women’s scoring with their times of 13:04.7 and 13:24.3, respectively.
After an exciting cross country season, the men and women have the finish line in their sights. The MAAC Cross Country Championships will take place on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
