LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Cross Country opened up their 2017 season with a strong showing. The men swept to take first, while the women took four in the top-five to take first place. This was the second straight season the Saints have hosted a home meet to start the cross country season.
The women got the Siena Short Course Twilight Meet with a 4k. Siena took four of the top-five spots, and eight spots in the top-10. Junior Sarah Forman won the race with a 14:55.0 time. She was followed by sophomores Camryn Johnson and Carolyn Pellegrini who took second and third. Johnson and Pellegrini finished in respective times of 15:08.1 and 15:12.1.
Sydney Johnson and Dominica Bleichert finished in 15:20.9 and 15:36.2, respectively to take fifth and sixth place. Rounding out the top-10 was freshman Morgan Serkes (15:45.9), Serena Rizzo (15:55.6) and Monica Strain (16:02.6). The women finished with 17 total points and beat second placed Saint Rose who finished with 46 points.
The men swept the top-seven places to push them to a victory. The top-seven Saints all crossed the finish line within two seconds of each other. Senior Shaun VanBuskirk won the 6k with a time of 20:04.8. Travis Fairlee took second with a 20:05.1 finish.
Michael Rautter and Stosh Davis came in right after one another with respective times of 20:05.4 and 20:05.5. Michael Stoker (20:05.7), Jack O’Hara (20:05.8) and Aidan Canavan (20:06.3) rounded out the top-seven. Siena won with 15 points and beat Union who came in second with 50 points.
The Saints will put their singlets back on and get back to the starting line on Saturday, September 9 at the Nassaney Invitational in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
