After a big first at the Armory Track Invitational, the Siena men’s and women’s track programs came out for another big day. In the two day meet, Siena had two ECAC/IC4A qualifiers, three school records, six top-10 MAAC times, nine personal records all from 16 student athletes.
“We went to this meet knowing that we would be seeing some of the best teams in the NCAA and everyone had to bring their A-game to the line for their races,” stated head coach John Kenworthy. “We had the game plan to get our hard and see what we could muscle out in the latter stages. I thought we did that exceptionally well and it produced some great results.”
Sydney Sericolo got things rolling for Siena as she set a personal record 10:29.68 in the 3000m. Sericolo’s time ranks fourth All-Time on Siena’s program list. Reigning MAAC Track Performer of the Week Carolyn Pellegrini was close to hitting a personal record with her 10:37.40 time.
Shannen Kerin hit her stride in the mile and landed in the #2 spot on the All-Time list with her 5:14.42 personal record.
We had many people come through with splits faster than their shorter race PRs, and continued on to big personal bests,” Kenworthy said. “There were many highlights, as nearly every athlete ran a season and/or personal best, but having Sarah and the men’s DMR hit ECAC and IC4A qualifying marks was a great success. Having a presence at the championship meet after the MAAC Championships is important to our program’s development this year and in the long term.”
The Saints will travel to Hamilton, New York for the Colgate Class of 1932 Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 11 for their final meet before the MAAC Championship
