Kickball Rules
- A team consists of nine players on the field. A minimum of six is needed to start and continue a game. NOTE: If you do NOT have a catcher on defense, you are responsible to have another fielder cover home plate on a defensive play at the plate. The other team can be the catcher to catch and return pitches.
- Games are 7 innings or 55 minutes, whichever comes first. There is also a 10 run rule after 5 innings. Kickball is played on the turf field, two games at a time.
- The batter is out in situations similar to softball (forceouts, popouts, etc.). In addition, a runner is out when he/she is hit by a thrown ball below the shoulders or if a kicked ball hits her/him from the "batter".
- The ball is put in play when the pitcher (a player on the offensive team) rolls the ball toward home plate and the batter attempts to kick the ball.
- The batter must wait for the ball to be within three feet of home plate before kicking the ball. You will receive 2 pitches. If your first kick goes foul, or the ball is not kicked you will receive 1 more pitch. If the second pitch is not kicked, or goes foul you are out.
- A runner who leaves the base before the pitch reaches home plate or is kicked, is out and the ball is dead. Leading off and stealing bases between pitches is not allowed.
- In order to prevent injury and protect the defensive player attempting to make a play on a base runner, the base runner must be called out if he/she remains on his/her feet and deliberately, with great force crashes into a defensive player holding the ball, waiting to apply a tag. If the act is determined to be flagrant, the offender shall also be ejected.
- Bunting (a kick in which there is no kicking motion made, or an attempt to kick the ball a very short distance) will not be permitted and is a dead ball and an automatic out.
- Shoes with metal cleats, exposed metal screw in cleats, boots, and sandals are strictly prohibited.
- If jewelry is determined to be unsafe, you must remove it if asked to do so by a student worker.
- If your team does not arrive within 10 minutes of your scheduled arrival time, you will be assessed a forfeit loss.
- Fighting is an indefinite suspension from any intramural activity.
- Students are expected to abide by all intramural policies.
