Siena Names Ryan Corbett Intramural Coordinator

Dan Velez started as the associate athletic director for operations at Siena College on December 4, 2013. Velez had served as assistant athletics director for facilities and operations at Seton Hall University since July 2010.

"We welcome Dan to our athletic family," director of athletics John D'Argenio. "His experience and work ethic will be a benefit to all of our student athletes, coaches and staff. The knowledge he has gained at Seton Hall will make for an easy transition"

Velez will oversee the athletic facilities and business operations arms of Siena's athletic department. He will manage the sports and recreation area, help implement department policy and procedure, serve as sport administrator for select sports, oversee budgeting and student employment, and work as the primary liaison with various offices at the College.

At Seton Hall, Velez served in a similar role, administering the operations of the Richie Regan Recreation Center and Owen T. Carroll Field in addition to assisting with setup and operation for Seton Hall men's basketball games at the Prudential Center. He was in charge of student employment opportunities for the athletic department, and coordinated the Athletic Internship Program. Velez also organized practice schedules and facility space usage for all of Seton Hall's varsity athletic programs, intramural and recreational programs and club sports.

Velez gained valuable experience working with the Prudential Center staff as the practice coordinator and for all basketball related activities at the 2011 NCAA Men's Basketball East Regional.

Prior to arriving at Seton Hall, Velez was the Assistant Athletic Director at Chopticon High School from 2008-10 and an assistant men's basketball coach at St. Mary's College of Maryland from 2005-09.

He earned a degree in secondary education from Kutztown University in 2004 and completed a master's degree in sports management at West Virginia University in 2009.

Velez worked for the athletic event management staff as an undergraduate student at Kutztown, setting up venues for athletic competition in addition to serving as the public address announcer for various sports.
