“’Doc’ brings a wealth of experience to our department,” said Associate Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator Lori Anctil. “We are very fortunate to have NCAA funding that allows us to provide an exceptional service for our student athletes.”
Dr. Bzdell will provide instruction and training in psychological skills designed to help athletes develop mental toughness and effectively manage the demands of collegiate athletics, and achieve success both on and off the playing field.

“Doc” Wally has over 20 years of experience providing a full range of mental toughness training for athletes and coaches. His focus is on developing core mental toughness strengths such as grit, resiliency, optimism, deliberate practice, and purpose.
Dr. Bzdell is the head of Bzdell Sport Psychology, LLC, which is a consulting practice that specializes in providing comprehensive sport psychology services and mental toughness training for teams and individual athletes. He offers a detailed and effective process which helps teams effectively and efficiently expand performance potential and consistently perform to the top level. Dr. Bzdell aids athletes in the development of habits of excellence, and remove obstacles to success, while providing performance enhancement within personal development.
Dr. Bzdell works with high-level performers at the high school, prep school, collegiate and professional ranks, and his process has a proven success rate. His clients include 2014 and 2015 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Champions Union College and Providence College. Since 2010, the Division I programs he’s worked with have also reached three Final Fours, three regional championships, made nine NCAA Tournament appearance, won six regular season championships, and captured five league tournament titles.
Dr. Bzdell has been affiliated with Siena College for 15 years, including 10 as the College’s Director for Counseling and Student Development. He has previously worked with many of Siena’s teams and programs over the years.
A native of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Dr. Bzdell played collegiate hockey locally at Union and graduated in 1994 with his B.S. in Psychology. He earned his Masters of Education in Counseling and Psychological Services, Specializing in Athletic Counseling from Springfield College in 1996, and received his Doctor of Education in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Sport Psychology from Boston University in 2001.
