Siena Has 81 Student Athletes Named to MAAC Honor Roll

Women's Soccer Leads Way With 11 Selections

81 of 197 eligible student athletes received recognition on the 2009-10 MAAC Honor Roll

Over 41% of Siena's eligible student athletes earned recognition on the 2009-10 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Honor Roll for holding cumulative GPAs of at least 3.20. A total of 81 Siena student athletes, representing 17 programs, were among the 1,054 student athletes recognized by the conference.

To earn a spot on the MAAC Honor Roll a student athlete must have been a sophomore, junior or senior during the 2009-10 academic year and finished the year with a GPA of 3.20 or higher. Not included in Siena's MAAC Honor Roll selections are the 12 student athletes from the field hockey program who made the Northeast Conference Academic Honor Roll in the fall.

Considering all freshmen student athletes and all field hockey student athletes were not included, only 197 of Siena's 328 student-athletes qualified for consideration on the Honor Roll.

The women's soccer team had 11 student athletes named to the squad, men's cross country and women's swimming and diving placed eight members each on the list, followed by women's cross country and women's tennis which each had six members honored.

Marist College, which sponsors 21 MAAC sports, heads the list of honored student-athletes with 167, followed by Iona College with 116 and Fairfield University with 100.

It marks the fifth straight year Siena has placed at least 80 student athletes on the MAAC Honor Roll. A record 88 Siena student athletes earned recognition in 2007-08.
