Record Number of Saints Named to MAAC Academic Honor Roll

Nearly half of Siena College's student athletes were named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll
July 16, 2015

LOUDONVILLE, NY -- For the fifth consecutive year, Siena College set a new school record with 154 student athletes named to the 2014-15 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll. Of the 324 student athletes who competed for Siena's 18 MAAC programs last year, a record 47.5% maintained cumulative grade point averages of 3.20 or higher to earn Academic Honor Roll status.

A total of 2,080 MAAC student athletes were named to the 2014-15 MAAC Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible, a student athlete must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher. The Honor Roll is open to both full-time and associate members of the MAAC and all 25 sports that the conference sponsors were represented on the list.

Nine of Siena College's 18 Division I athletic programs had at least half of the student athletes on their 2014-15 rosters represented on the MAAC Academic Honor Roll, with women's soccer leading all teams with 18 selections. All eight members of the women's tennis team were named to the Honor Roll and women's cross country (80%), swimming and diving (72.7%) and women's soccer (72%) all had the vast majorities of their student athletes make the list.

Fourteen teams maintained cumulative GPA's of 3.0 or higher this past year with student athletes maintaining an impressive overall cumulative GPA of 3.16. During the most recent Spring 2015 semester, all 18 programs achieved cumulative team GPAs in excess of a 3.0 to total a remarkable overall student athlete GPA of 3.26 for the term.

Additionally, 32 student athletes were named to the athletic department's 4.0 club for achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA during either the Fall 2014 or Spring 2015 semester including five who posted unblemished 4.0 GPAs both terms.

Swimming and diving led both the MAAC and all Siena programs with 13 MAAC All-Academic Team selections last season. While inclusion on the MAAC All-Academic Teams also necessitates a 3.20 cumulative GPA or higher, those lists do not include freshmen or first-year student athletes whereas the MAAC Academic Honor Roll does. Men's soccer set a program record with 11 MAAC All-Academic Team selections and men's lacrosse tied a program record with eight.

Swimming and diving also led all of Siena's teams with a 3.52 cumulative GPA for the 2014-15 academic year and 86.4% of the roster achieved a 3.0 or higher GPA during the spring semester.
