Sophomore tennis player Molly Scullin, and junior baseball player Matt Gidaly were recognized today as the May recipients of the Leo Dufort Siena College Student Athlete of the Month Award. The award is presented nine times annually to student athletes who excel on the playing fields and in the classroom.
"Matt and Molly demonstrate great focus and commitment to both their studies and athletic endeavors," director of athletics John D'Argenio said. "This year, we were able to recognize some truly tremendous accomplishments through the Leo Dufort Award, and Matt and Molly are very deserving of the final honor."
Scullin saw action at both singles and doubles this season for head coach Tim O'Brien and the Saints. She played in every match this spring, boasting key singles wins over Manhattan and Saint Peter's. Scullin has improved on every aspect of her game the past two seasons, and figures to be a key contributor next season. In the classroom, Scullin boasts a 3.34 GPA as an English major after carrying a 3.54 in the spring.
Gidaly helped the Saints to a 29-23 record this past spring and a second place finish in the MAAC. He batted .270 with four homeruns and 19 RBI starting 45 of the 49 games he played in centerfield. A psychology major, Gidaly holds a 3.04 GPA and landed a 3.00 this past spring.
