LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -Members of the Siena Saints Leadership Academy recently reconvened with Julie Ammary of the Janssen Sports Leadership Center to expand on concepts and techniques first touched on last October. In the interim months, Emerging and Veteran leaders left armed with the “Team Captain’s Leadership Manual,” heard from Ryan Hungershafer ’02 in December about his insights on continuous self-improvement to lead others, and, for many, implemented some concepts to their teams’ seasons.
The Veterans group met first and grappled with: “How can I remain composed under challenging circumstances?” and “How can I better understand conflict scenarios and be prepared to handle them effectively?” They worked together to target specific situations and scenarios while developing strategies to enhance their ability as persuasive leaders.
Next up for the Emerging Leaders, the conversation flew. Or rather, paper balls flew as Julie used a basketball activity to illustrate communication and commitment. The group tackled the question “How can I recognize and enhance my levels of confidence and commitment in order to emerge as a more respected leader by example on my team?” The group reflected on Janssen’s Commitment Continuum™, a tool designed to help emerging leaders earn coaches’ and teammates’ respect.
The following morning, Julie met with Siena coaches and administrators to assess current team dynamics and help them clarify the program and visions to foster a championship culture.
“Saints Leadership Academy members have proven to be some of the most dedicated and passionate leaders not only for their respective teams, but also for the entire Siena campus and community," said associate director of athletics and senior woman administrator Lori Anctil. "We are proud of their commitment to Siena Athletics and their drive to foster growth for a winning culture.”
